BENGALURU: A 25-year-old woman succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Hoskote on Sunday, a day after her husband allegedly stabbed her 13 times at Pillagumpe industrial area over a domestic row. The suspect allegedly attempted suicide by stabbing himself in his stomach and throat.
Police identified the deceased as
Harshitha and the suspect as her husband
Ramesh, 30, a resident of Vinayakanagar in Hoskote town.
Preliminary probe revealed that Harshitha and Ramesh, a mason, belonged to different castes and got married seven years ago after falling in love. The couple stayed together for the first five years and had two children. Ramesh started suspecting her character and objected to her speaking to anyone over phone, after which Harshitha and her kids began living with her parents. Ramesh made attempts to bring her back to his house, but she turned down his requests. He strongly believed that she was in a relationship with another person and hatched a plan to kill her.
Ramesh asked Harshitha to join him to visit Kaivara, Chikkaballapur district, on Saturday morning, and the duo reached Pillagumpe industrial area. He started questioning her character and this led to an argument. Around 10am, Ramesh took out a knife and stabbed Harshitha multiple times, and later stabbed himself once in his stomach and then in his throat. Roadside tea shop vendors and passersby rushed the duo to a private hospital in Hoskote.
Harshitha did not respond to treatment and breathed her last around 7.45am on Sunday. Ramesh is being treated at the same hospital and is out of danger, said police. Police are waiting for his discharge from the hospital to arrest him.
