According to a complaint filed by S Karan Verma, a merchant from Moga on April 25, Mohammed Rohilla, 28, who's from Gowribidanur in Doddaballapura, had met him and replaced fake diamond pieces with original ones on the pretext of looking at them.

"Rohilla called me on April 6 asking whether I could supply 100-carat diamonds. He asked me to meet him at a star hotel on Palace Road on April 25. My business partner Raju Bahi was also with me," Verma said.

The duo booked a room on the fourth floor of a hotel and Rohilla dropped in at 5.30pm. "Rohilla checked the diamonds and put them back into the pouch before handing them over to us. Later, he left the room, saying he would return soon. But he didn't. We grew suspicious as his cellphone was switched off. We checked the pieces in the pouch and found them to be fake.," Verma told cops.
