Bengaluru gets new cat rescue, rehabilitation & adoption centre
BENGALURU: Catering to the growing population of pet parents and their furry friends, Bengaluru on Thursday witnessed the opening of a dedicated home for cats. The new cat rehabilitation and adoption centre at Yelachenahalli, off the busy Kanakapura Road in Southern Bengaluru, will provide comprehensive care for feral, injured, rescued, and abandoned cats.
The adoption centre has been set up as a joint collaboration between Tekion—the innovator of the first cloud-native platform serving the automotive retail ecosystem—and Bengaluru-based Praana Animal Foundation as part of the former’s ongoing global corporate social responsibility (CSR). Besides emergency care, the centre will also offer various services such as postoperative care, rehabilitation, and cat adoption support.
Rana Robillard, Chief People Officer of Tekion, said, “The rehabilitation centre will not only provide essential care but also raise awareness about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. We are proud to partner with Praana Animal Foundation to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable cats across Bengaluru.” In fact, this is the third joint initiative of the firms in the past year in Bengaluru. The firms, together, launched a 24X7 animal ambulance service across Bengaluru.
Samyukta Hornad, Sandalwood actress and founder of Praana Animal Foundation, said, “This centre is a dream come true for me as this is the first post-care unit in India for cats. We wanted to fill the gap between rescuers and a place to keep them till they get adopted. Thanks to Tekion’s support, we will now provide specialised care and find loving homes for cats.” Soon after the post-operative care for rescued cats, the adoption drives will be conducted regularly to help cats find their forever families.
The launch of the centre had a touch of creativity, with the centre featuring cat-themed murals all around painted by the students of the famous Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath and other prominent art schools of Bengaluru. The centre will also host educational sessions and workshops for school kids to promote compassion and respect for animals for meaningful coexistence.
