Nishanth's petition was about Aditya Sachdev, the 19-year-old student allegedly murdered by Rocky Yadav, son of Bihar legislator Manorama Devi, when he overtook Yadav's SUV.

"I was watching the news on TV with my brother and was shocked. I realized my brother was Aditya's age and if it could happen to Aditya it could happen to my brother too. We had all elected Nitish Kumar to power because we had some hope in him. To let this go unnoticed without any proper action from him would be a waste of our votes, and I wanted to ensure this was not the case," Nishanth told TOI.

Based on the comments and messages posted by those who supported and shared the petition, Nishanth said: "We want the Bihar government to set up a fast-track court with a time-frame and make this case an example so that people like Rocky Yadav will also understand the fear of the law. Persons like Rocky need to know that the common man is not valueless," he said.

Nishanth put his petition out on Mother's Day on Sunday, saying, "We cannot imagine the grief of a mother whose son was shot simply because he overtook someone."
