BELGAUM: Corporator Mainabai Chougale along with her supporters including her husband Shiva Chougale attacked Belgaum City Corporation officials when they went to remove illegal shed at Wards Number 45 here on Saturday. Due to attack on Belgaum city corporation officials, as a mark of protest, Corporation employees association members decided to abstain from work on Monday.
The officials have filed case against corporator and her husband.
Shiva Chougale constructed illegal vehicle service centre in front of Mirji College, near Maratha Mandal College. Deputy commissioner N Jayaram ordered corporation commissioner to remove the illegal service centre. On Saturday, when the corporation officials, assistant executive engineer Ramesh Nyamagoudar, assistant engineer Kiran Nayak and encroachment department inspector Arjun Dematti visited the spot, Shiva Chougale along with his wife Mainabai Chougale and other supporters numbering nearly 30 attacked the officials and used vulgar words against the officials. Shiva Chougale was acting as if he himself is corporator; he used filthy languages against the officials. They later went to corporation behaved like goondas in front of Corporation and Corporation Commissioner Chamber. They also used singular words against Corporation commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis. Police personnel’s who were present were just mute spectators.
Speaking to The Times of India Belgaum City Corporation Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said “On the direction from Deputy Commissioner we had sent concern officials to remove the illegal shed. When our officials went there, they attacked our officials and used filthy languages. They also came to my chamber and used filthy words. We have filed complaints at Malmaruthi Police Station”. Nippanikar who is also member of Belgaum City Corporation Employees association condemned the attack on officials.
Superintendent of police Chandraguptha said, “Action will be taken against those who obstructed the officials and used filthy languages. We will not tolerate these kind of behaviour; those found guilty will be dealt in iron hand”.
Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram too assured to take stringent action against those who found obstructing government officials on duty.
