DOMINANT Beagles BC EMERGE TRIUMPHANT
Bengaluru: Beagles Basketball Club, with an all-win record in the semifinal league, emerged triumphant in the state women’s basketball league championship on Monday. At the Sree Kanteerava stadium courts in Bengaluru, Beagles defeated DYES, Mysuru 65-32 in their final outing. Beagles, who earned a winner’s cheque of Rs 75,000, built an early advantage and were leading 31-16 at half-time.

Although DYES did make a comeback, their spirited challenge was thwarted as Chandana (21 points) and Sanjana (18) put the contest beyond their reach. In the other match of the day, Mounts Club got past JSC 70-51 to finish second and took home Rs 50,000.

Second-seeded Oges Theyjo J of Tamil Nadu scored a 6-1, 7-5 win over Karnataka’s Rashein Samuel, the fourth seed, to emerge triumphant in the all-India prize money tournament conducted by the ANT International Academy on the city outskirts over the weekend.

Lakshminarayana NAMED INDIA U-20 HEAD COACH
Last year’s runner-up India will take on Bangladesh first in the Asian men’s U-20 Volleyball Championship that begins in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Tuesday. Karnataka’s former junior India player KR Lakshminarayana was named as the head coach. India have been clubbed with Japan, Kuwait and Bangladesh in Group ‘C’.
