BANGALORE: Honours have started pouring in for newly-crowned world professional billiards champion Pankaj Advani.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, after returning from China, announced on Tuesday that Advani will be felicitated with a BDA site for his feat.
The 24-year-old is the second Indian to win the just-concluded World Professional Billiards championship in Leeds, after two-time world champion Geet Sethi -- in 139 years of the competition.
In the finals at the Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds, UK, on Monday, the ace cueist from Banaglore pulled off a 2030-1253 victory over nine-time world champion Mike Russell of Qatar.
CM elated over state's performance
Yeddyurappa also congratulated Umashree and Prakash Raj for winning best actress and actor awards at the 55th National Film Awards. "Three Kannadiags (Umashree, Rai and Advani) have made the state proud. All three will be felicitated by the government at Vidhana Soudha's banquet hall," Yeddyurappa said.
While Umashree got the award for her role in Kannada movie `Gulabi Talkies', Raj was adjudged best actor for his remarkable role in the Tamil film `Kanchivaram'. Raj is from the state, now settled in Chennai.
