) commissioner BH Anil Kumar on Thursday ordered setting up of a planning unit to coordinate with experts and civic groups to come up with a roadmap for the city’s development.
His tweet, which went viral on Thursday, reads: “In line with Hon@CMofKarnataka’s vision, we have taken the first step to prepare Bengaluru Vision Document 2050 by creating a separate City Planning wing. It will comprise experts from Town planning department who will put together a team to draft the document (sic).”
In another tweet, he said: “BBMP is planning to launch Vision 2050, keeping long term in mind. Such an idea can be planned & implemented only with the help of citizens. I appeal to all of you to participate & help us in our endeavour (sic).”
The new wing will be headed by SL Rajanna, a specially deputed additional director. The BBMP commissioner told TOI: “This vision and the revised master plan (RMP) prepared by

are two different things; thinkers shouldn’t mix their views on this topic,” he said.
The city development wing, which will coordinate with various experts, will also prepare a document with a vision for Bengaluru’s development, he added.
Citizens’ group ichangeIndiranagar tweeted: “Sir, why don’t you set up the MPC in line with 74th amendment? We don’t want businessmen in the garb of town planners planning our city. Let us begin by implementing RMP 2015 (sic).”
