BBMP officer caught with bribe

Bengaluru: Lokayukta sleuths on Friday caught an assistant revenue officer with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 for changing the khata of a property. The accused ARO, Chandrappa Beerajjanavar, is from Hegganahalli BBMP office. Police also arrested Gopal Nayak, a private individual who was allegedly acting as an agent. After the trap, Lokayukta cops raided Chandrappa’s residence and found Rs 5 lakh, documents of six acres of land in Ranebennur and one three-storey building in KR Puram. Police will produce Chandrappa before a court on Saturday and seek his custody for interrogation.

Bribes are the rule for passport verification, alleges travel agent

Nagpur travel agent Nitesh Gaur claims he was forced to pay a bribe to Jaripatka police for expedited passport verification, highlighting the corruption within the police force. Despite the police cracking down on illegal immigrants using fraudulent documents to obtain Indian passports, no action has been taken against the officers involved in facilitating these illegal activities. The police have now increased the verification process, demanding additional documents such as birth certificates and tax receipts. Citizens are reluctant to report these under-the-table demands for fear of delays or retaliation.

Raitha Sena alleges irregularities in KNNL, approaches Lokayukta

The Raitha Sena Karnataka (RSK) has filed a complaint with the Karnataka Lokayukta, accusing officials of the Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL) of corruption and irregularities in irrigation projects. The RSK alleges that officials embezzled Rs 28 crore through bogus bills. The RSK collected evidence of the fraudulent bills and filed a complaint with the Lokayukta, who has started a preliminary investigation. The RSK has been fighting for the modernization of canals to provide water to farmers in the region.

Final notification out; polls for 225 BBMP wards in December?

The Karnataka government has issued a final notification reducing the number of wards in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) from 243 to 225. The government accepted the report from the Wards Delimitation Commission and made changes to the draft delimitation based on objections and suggestions from the public. The ward maps will soon be available online. Some areas will see an increase in the number of wards, while others will see a decrease. The government is considering conducting BBMP elections in December.
