As part of its attempt to maintain funds for medals and certificates, the university hikes the fee for the medals and certificates every year by 10%.
In a notification, the university said the interest earned the total fund kept aside for awarding gold and silver medals is not enough and students will have to pay for the same. Rank holders are expected to pay the Rs 500 while submitting the application for receiving the medal and certificates. Candidates will have to draw a demand draft in favour of the finance officer of the university for the amount.
While last year, students paid up to Rs 325 for the medals, the fee this year includes adding a 10% hike amounting to Rs 33, Rs 50 towards application fee and Rs 100 as fine. The total runs up to Rs 508 and the varsity has rounded it off to Rs 500.
The varsity said that while the process of rewarding medals has been around since 1962, decreasing interest rates on endowments kept aside for medals and increasing number of students winning the honour have forced the varsity to make students pay for the same.
