BANGALORE: After universities, it's the turn of schools to go global. Vidyashilp Academy, one of Bangalore's prestigious schools, will set up a full-fledged campus in Kuwait to cater to the growing Indian diaspora in the oil-rich nation.
Promoters of Vidayashilp Academy and Vidya Sagar have been invited by Kuwait-based industrialists to open a residential school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
"During my recent visit to Kuwait, the Indian ambassador there was very keen that we set up a quality school to cater to working Indian professionals in the region. The Indian diaspora wants their kids to study in an Indian school so that they become eligible to pursue higher studies back in India," P Dayananda Pai, co-founder of Vidyashilp Academy, told TOI. The promoters are likely to partner with Abudalla al-Sabeg, a Kuwait-based industrialist, to start the school. Classes are likely to commence from 2012.
"While the Kuwaiti partner will ensure land and get necessary approvals to set up the school, we'll provide teachers and administrators. We want to make sure all teachers stay on campus. We are looking at an initial investment of around Rs 12 crore for the project. No name has been decided yet for the school," Pai added. Close to 3,000 students are currently studying at Vidyasagar and Vidyashilp Academy in Bangalore.
