BANGALORE: Barring stray cases of stone-throwing on Tannery Road, the dawn-to-dusk bandh in Bangalore, called by various social organizations led by Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj to protest against the increasing sexual crime against women and children, was peaceful. Most schools and commercial establishments remained closed while public transport plied normally.
As a precaution, BMTC ran fewer buses. There weren’t many takers for autorickshaws and cabs. Most government offices, banks and private companies functioned.
Main roads in Rajajinagar, Malleswaram, Hebbal and RT Nagar were deserted.
Rallies were taken out in different parts of the city extending support to the bandh. The organizers took out a march from Freedom Park to the CM’s house and presented a memorandum.
By 6pm, the situation returned to normal. Business centres, eateries and shopping hubs reopened.
