The Bengaluru City District Regional Transport Authority has scheduled a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the fare revision in response to demands from autorickshaw drivers’ associations.

Current and proposed fare changes
At present, the minimum fare for autorickshaws in Bengaluru is Rs 30, with an additional charge of Rs 15 per kilometre after the first two kilometres. However, autorickshaw unions have suggested increasing the minimum fare to Rs 50 and charging Rs 25 per kilometre beyond the initial distance.

Meanwhile, the transport department is considering a more moderate fare revision, proposing a minimum fare of Rs 40 and a per-kilometre rate of Rs 20.

Impact on ride-hailing services
With the likelihood of autorickshaw fare hikes, ride-hailing companies may also need to adjust their pricing for cab services.

"Once the autorickshaw fares go up, the ride-hailing companies will have to increase the fares of cab services," said Swabhimani Chalakara Sanghatanegala Okkoota (SCSO) president Tanveer Pasha while speaking to media.

The final decision on the fare revision is expected to be made after discussions at the upcoming transport authority meeting.
