bangalore: she had her dream of acting in tv serials while studying in 3rd standard itself. the brilliant student of bms college, bangalore, has nearly 40 serials to her credit. she was the `talent queen'' of pragathipara cultural group in 2000. she is set to grab the `merit award'' for securing highest marks in sociology in 2nd ba.
that''s deepashri for you. deepashri began her acting at a very young age of eight, when she was offered a small role in the kannada serial hidakavare mathu dhimaaku."that was the beginning of my acting career and offers came one after the other," say deepashri. while in 7th standard, deepashri''s acting career took a new turn when she was selected for a four-episode serial chaitanyadhare."earlier, i used to act only in single episode serials. this gave me a chance to prove my acting talent." a final ba student, deepashri always took active interest in extra-curricular activities like dance, drama, monoacting, poetry recitation, group dance and other cultural activities and won many individual prizes and trophies for the college. but deepashri''s interest lies in acting. her popular serials include mayamriga, katha sagara, kanna muchale, nikshepa and prathibimba. "in fact, mayamriga directed by t.n. seetharam gave me a big break. my role as nirmala, a christian girl, made me popular like any other artistes of the serial." she considers her roles in pa pa pandu and manvanthara as her best in recent times. deepashri, who likes emotional and comedy roles like in pa pa pandu, prefers tv serials to films. "in serials, we have very good atmosphere. there will be involvement in character. we learn a lot from elders as we work closely with them." deepashri has done a small role in the kannada film munnudidirected by p. seshadri. "i am getting offers to act in films, somehow i prefer small screen. the other reason is that i am still studying and i cannot spare my time for both cinema and films." a lover of theatre activities, deepashri is very particular about her studies. "of course, i like acting. i want to be a good actress and also a dancer. but my studies are as important as my acting and dancing."
