BENGALURU: All Tamil TV channels were taken off the air in Karnataka on Saturday from 9am to 5pm following the bandh in Tamil Nadu over the Mekedatu issue. It was to pre-empt any flare-up of protests in the state, said cable operators.
"From 9.00am onwards, the Tamil channels were blocked. We did get a lot of calls from households asking to air the channels.

But we didn't as there were possibilities of pro-Kannada organizations reacting to protests in Tamil Nadu. It was just a precaution that we took," said V S Patrick Raju, president, Karnataka Cable TV Operators Association. Over 40 channels that were blacked out resumed post 5.00pm.
Transport services partially hit: Over 400 bus services operated by KSRTC alone were suspended till 6.00pm due to the bandh in Tamil Nadu. KSRTC officials said that only about six or seven services will be operated after 6pm because no major untoward incidents had happened. KSRTC operates 400 services between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu on a daily basis.
All trains from Bengaluru division departed on time but only the Bangalore City-Chennai Mail scheduled to depart from City station on Saturday at 10.40pm was rescheduled to 11.55pm due to the late running of its pairing train.
The bandh in Tamil Nadu was called by farmers and backed by opposition parties to protest against the plans of the Karnataka government to build check dams across the Cauvery in Mekedatu.
