HEBRI(Udupi district): Home minister V S Acharya on Thursday said he was also not infavour of `pub culture' as it was not `our culture', but not aware of the CM'sstatement in Delhi. Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of BJP Chinthan Baitak atnearby Kalathur Santhekatte, Acharya said he wasn't aware in what context ofthat statement.
Regarding statements of Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan chiefminister, that mall and pub cultures are ruining the youth and it's high timethey should be stopped, Acharya said statements of Congress leaders like Gehlotstrengthened their stand.
On the growing demand that he should eitherquit or be shown the door, Acharya said it was politically motivated. He claimedthe crime rate has drastically reduced after he took charge as home minister andhe also made many qualitative changes in the police in crime detection andadministration.
Acharya told mediapersons that the police actedswiftly in the Mangalore pub incident and within 10 minutes, they reached thespot and prevented further damage. He suspected some political hand in theincident to malign the BJP government. Acharya added that the government hasstill not decided to ban the Sri Rama Sena. "If it is warranted, we may resortto that too," he added.
