Bengaluru: Abhishek KK and Prerana N Shet claimed the U-17 singles titles among boys and girls at the Yonex Sunrise state ranking badminton tournament (U-15 & U-17) in Davanagere on Thursday.
Abhishek, Prerana annexed double crowns as well, winning their doubles matches. Mayukh DB and Abhinav Garg too emerged champions in two categories.
Top seed Abhishek overcame a late fightback from Pravararchith RM to prevail 21-15, 27-25 in the final. Prerana had a relatively easy title round against Mounitha AS, scoring a 21-11, 21-12 victory. Later, Abhishek and Laksh Chengappa MA beat Sumith AR and Chris Anjen Baptist 21-18, 19-21, 21-16 in the boys doubles final. Prerena found an able partner in Aradhana Balachandra as the top seeds beat Prathiksha Raj and Ashwaty Rachel Varghese 21-14, 21-9 in the girls’ doubles.
Mayukh reigned supreme in two doubles finals in the U-15 age category. First, he paired with Garg to defeat Pavan and Punith S 21-14, 19-21, 21-18 in the boys’ doubles. Later, he joined hands with Jade Anil to oust Dhyan Santosh and Disha Santosh 17-21, 21-19, 21-11 in the mixed doubles final.
Meanwhile, Garg clinched the boys U-15 crown with a facile 21-7, 21-12 victory over Dhyan Santosh.
