DAVANAGERE: As many as nine projects of the final year engineering students of BIET here have been selected for the state-level exhibition-cum- seminar to be held at Vijayanagara College of Engineering at Bellary.

DAVANAGERE: As many as nine projectsof the final year engineering students of BIET here have been selected for thestate-level exhibition-cum- seminar to be held at Vijayanagara College ofEngineering at Bellary.The exhibition, sponsored by the KarnatakaState Council for Science and Technology, Bangalore, will be held on September12 and 13. Of the nine projects, four are from textiles, two each from chemicaland computer science and engineering and one from the electronics departments, arelease said.The KSCST is extending financial assistance to studentsto do projects. There were 170 projects sponsored from 38 engineering collegesin Karnataka during 2002-03. The best 70 projects out of 170 have been selectedby the KSCST and are being exhibited at the Bellary engineeringcollege.The students of Ashwini Ayurvedic Medical College here took out a protestrally here on Wednesday urging the authorities to solve their long-pendingdemands including recognition of their BAMS degree, introduction of revaluationsystem, holding of entrance test for PG courses on a par with CET model andprovision of five attempts for the failed candidates to clear theirdegree.
The students shouted slogans against the Rajiv GandhiUniversity for Health Sciences for failing to get the recognition of BAMS degreetill date, although the university came into being nine year ago. Since theCentral Board of Ayurvedic Council, New Delhi, has not recognised BAMS, thegraduates of ayurvedic medicine were unable to practice, legally, the studentssaid.Davanagere Science Centre will hold a two- day workshop for the mathsteachers of Davanagere district in association with Department of PublicInstruction at the civil engineering seminar hall of BIET here on Saturday andSunday, a release said. Discussions among resource persons and theteachers will focus on the change of the syllabi of both Science-I andMathematics of Std VIII and IX. Prof Vijayakumari and Prof M.R. Nagaraju ofBangalore will be the resources persons. Davanagere DDPI K.B. Ramalingappa alongwith other BEOs and Prof Y. Vrushabhendrappa, the convenor of Science Centre,Davanagere, will take part in theprogramme.Nagarikara Hitharakshana Samithi, Davanagere unit, urged the chiefjustice N.K. Jain and the chief minister of Karnataka S.M. Krishna to establishhigh court Bench in Davanagere, instead of any other place in northKarnataka.At a press conference, H.S. Nagaraj, president of thesamithi said Davanagere is geographically at the centre of the state and itfulfils all the norms that have been laid down by the CJ.
