80km traffic relief: Bids floated to fast-track five elevated roads in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: The city's commuters battling daily gridlock may soon get relief, with plans in place for five elevated corridors spanning nearly 80km to ease traffic on the busiest routes. Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-Smile) has invited bids for consultancy services to fast-track these projects, aimed at improving east–west and north–south connectivity. In a request for proposal (RFP) issued Friday, B-Smile called for eligible project management consultants (PMCs), detailed project report (DPR) consultants, and proof-checking agencies with relevant experience. The bids will be processed through a two-cover system and submitted exclusively through the state govt's Karnataka Public Procurement portal. The proposed elevated corridors, together spanning nearly 80km, are intended to divert through-traffic from congested surface roads and ease daily gridlock on key commuter corridors. One of the projects is a 17.9km, six-lane (3+3) elevated corridor from Nagavara Junction to Bagalur Main Road, passing through RK Hegde Nagar, Sampigehalli, Tirumenahalli and Bellahalli. The flyover will run from Sathnur village to Chokkanahalli village, and the DPR has been prepared by Infra Support Engineering Pvt Ltd.Another major proposal targets the heavily congested north-eastern corridor, with a 27.1km elevated road planned from Mother Teresa Circle near Ulsoor lake to Bagalur village on new airport road. The alignment cuts across Assaye Road, Buddha Vihar Road, Hennur Main Road, Bagalur Main Road, and Kannuru — a stretch known for peak-hour bottlenecks. The DPR for this corridor was also prepared by Infra Support Engineering Pvt Ltd.To address chronic congestion in the city's eastern and southern corridors, B-Smile has proposed a 10.8km elevated corridor from Old Madras Road to Electronics City flyover. The route will pass through Swami Vivekananda Metro station, Indiranagar, Old Airport Road, and Hosur Road, including Silk Board Junction — one of Bengaluru's most notorious traffic choke points. The DPR for this project was prepared by Siddhi Shakti Projects. In west and south Bengaluru, two additional corridors have been proposed to ease traffic on saturated arterial roads. These include a 5.2km elevated corridor from Sirsi Circle to Nayandahalli on Mysuru Road, extending up to the Mysuru Satellite Bus Station, and an 18.4km corridor from Marenahalli Main Road (Ragigudda Junction) to Kanakapura Main Road via the BWSSB Pipeline Road near Thalaghattapura 5th Junction. The DPR for the Kanakapura Road corridor was prepared by Nagesh Consultants.Officials said the selected consultants will oversee project management, technical vetting, and proof-checking to ensure quality and timely execution.
