7k crore for Karnataka’s rail projects

Bengaluru: Karnataka has received a budgetary allocation of Rs 7,542 crore for rail projects, including for ongoing new lines and fresh projects, in the Interim Budget tabled Thursday.
South Western Railway (SWR) will take up 11 new rail projects worth Rs 2,286 crore in the state. The maximum allocation of Rs 410 crore has been made for Bagalkot-Kudachi line, followed by Gadag (Tatkal)-Wadi route at Rs 380 crore. Ginigera-Raichur and Tumakuru-Davangere lines have received Rs 300 crore each. The other new projects for which allocations have been made include the Kadur-Chikkamagalur-Hassan line and the Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur route.
For quadrupling of the Bengaluru Cantonment-Whitefield line, an allocation of Rs 260 crore has been made. Railways will spend Rs 300 crore for doubling Byppanahalli-Hosur and Yeshwantpur-Channasandra lines.
A press release from South Western Railway (SWR) states that for safety works (railway over-bridges and underpasses), Rs 341 crore has been allocated. It will spend Rs 22 crore for a survey of new lines, doubling and quadrupling projects. SWR has received a total outlay of Rs 7329 crore. TNN
