BENGALURU: Around 72% of the Namma Metro’s underground tunnelling of Pink Line (Nagawara-Kalena Agrahara) has been completed.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Wednesday said that they have completed 15.2Km of the 21.2Km tunnelling work.

With the underground station works progressing well, BMRCL said they have decided to commission the entire Pink Line by the end of March 2025.

TBM Lavi on Wednesday achieved a breakthrough at RMS (Vellara) station.

“TBM Lavi, which started its tunnelling at Shivajinagar on March 26, 2021 achieved a breakthrough at MG Road station after completing 1074m of tunnelling on April 15, 2022. It further started tunnelling from MG Road on May 26, 2022 and completed the drive on Wednesday up to RMS (Vellara) station covering a tunnel length of 1134m,” said a release from BMRCL.

A part of phase-2 of the project, Pink Line consists of 13.9km of underground section, involving 21.2 km of tunnelling (twin).

“This underground section has been divided into four contract packages and nine TBMs have been deployed for completing this tunnelling work. Out of this, three TBMs: Urja, Varada & Avni have already completed their designated length of tunnelling. Lavi is the fourth TBM to complete its drive,” it said.

“TBM Vindhya which is driving from Pottery station to Shadhimahal shaft is expected to complete its drive and break through by the end of this month. With this, all four TBMs deployed by L&T complete their work and the tunnelling work of two packages will be completed,” it adds.
