bangalore: the state government has issued 63.64 lakh below poverty level (bpl) rations cards of the total 1.12 crore cards issued till november 30, 2001, food and civil supplies minister d.b.inamdar told the council on wednesday. replying to a question by b.a. mohideen (jd), inamdar said about 7.15 lakh computerised cards have been issued. the government did not incur any expense since re 1 was collected for the application form and rs 45 charged for the computerised card by m/s ecil which distributed the cards.
farmers' suicide: the government has disbursed rs 6.50 lakh compensation to the family members of farmers suspected to have committed suicide, agriculture minister t.b. jayachandra told d.h. shankar murthy (bjp). jayachandra said of the rs 6.50 lakh, rs 4 lakh was from the chief minister's relief fund and rs 2.50 lakh from national social assistance scheme. ``there are 79 cases of farmers' suicide. the government is awaiting the experts committee's report to decide on the issue of paying compensation,'' he added.
