3 babies test Covid-positive in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Karnataka reported 15 active Covid-19 cases on Friday, with a nine-month-old boy from Hoskote among those afflicted.

The baby was referred from a private medical college hospital to Vani Vilas Hospital. A Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on May 22 revealed he was Covid positive. Harsh Gupta, principal secretary, health and family welfare, said the baby is stable at present.

However, this wasn't the only baby to come down with Covid in the recent past. Two others tested positive at a private hospital in Bengaluru, but neither baby required intensive care, according to sources.

Following a meeting with experts, Gupta told TOI there has been a rise in Covid cases in May, but according to experts, this is a seasonal occurrence and not very serious.

"All the babies were fine. Experts' initial impression is that the older population has gained immunity from exposure, while babies have not. This is why we see some babies getting the virus."

Gupta added that recoveries have been fast and there is no cause for alarm.
