BENGALURU: Two men have been arrested for allegedly forging property documents and pledging the same as surety with a local court to help a miscreant get bail.
Police unearthed the case after the original owner of the property appeared before the court and told the judge how his property papers had been forged. The accused are Krishnappa Bychappa, 48, and C Manjunatha Gowda, 26, both residents of Bangarpet in Kolar.
Investigation revealed that the accused helped several miscreants walk out on bail by furnishing fake property documents as surety.
"In 2014, prime accused Manjunatha Gowda stood surety for one Seena alias Kariya Seena, who was arrested by Chandra Layout police on charges of dacoity. After spending a few months in jail, Kariya applied for bail and his family approached Manjunatha for surety," said a senior police officer. Manjunatha allegedly forged the property documents of his elder brother C Ramegowda, copied his signature and pledged the papers with the court, following which Kariya Seena was granted bail.
Later, in 2016 when Kariya did not respond to court summons, police informed the court that he was absconding. "The court then summoned Ramegowda who pleaded innocence. Ramegowda also told the court that the pledged documents were forged," said police. The court then directed police to track Manjunatha and arrest him on charges of cheating and forgery. "Manjunatha and he told us that another accused, Krishnappa Bychappa, helped him forge the documents," said police.
