BANGALORE: Three accidents in different parts of the city in the last 24 hours claimed two lives and left six persons injured.
A 70-year-old woman died after she was hit by a speeding Tempo Traveller around 7pm near Hebbal. Fatima who lived with her son in Chamundi Nagar, near Hebbal, was returning from Tumkur after visiting her daughter. She got down from a bus near
Yogesh Nagar Circle and was walking towards her home when the vehicle hit her.
Fatima was rushed to Baptist Hospital by passersby but she died while undergoing treatment. The driver escaped, leaving the vehicle behind.
In the second
accident, a 21-year-old autorickshaw passenger was killed and two others were injured after the vehicle overturned around 7pm on Saturday night, near Electronics City. Kuri Surya, Balaji and Arjun were transporting tyres from City Market to Singasandra. At one of the slopes, the driver lost control of the autorickshaw. They were taken to Victoria Hospital but Kuri succumbed to his injuries around 11pm.
In another accident, which occurred early on Sunday morning, four men were injured after a tipper truck carrying construction material to a Metro project site rammed a goods autorickshaw at Briand's Square. The four passengers in the autorickshaw - Shankar Rao, 42, Tirumani, 30, Kumar, 35 and Raju, 30 - were taken to Victoria Hospital.
The goods vehicle was coming from Sirsi Circle to City Market entered the junction when it was rammed by the lorry. The lorry driver later told police that his vehicle's brakes failed and he could not stop it in time. Barring one of the injured, the others were discharged after treatment.
