Youth dies in road accident

BAREILLY

: A 21-year-old youth was killed in a road accident after his motorbike collided with an unidentified vehicle near Lal Phatak crossing under Cantonment police station on Thursday night.


An FIR was lodged against the unidentified driver. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

The deceased was identified as Pramod Gupta, a resident of Biharipur locality near

Civil Lines

under Kotwali police station. Pramod, who worked as a cook in a private hotel, is survived by mother, two brothers and a sister. He was sole breadwinner of his family.

Deceased’s uncle, Umesh Gupta, said, “In the last five weeks, Pramod’s friend Satish Kumar, who lives in Bareilly city, was suffering from fever. But, he was busy working. On Thursday, at 11 pm, he was going to meet a friend. While taking his bike, he promised me of returning in 30 minutes. The accident took place when his bike collided with an unidentified vehicle. He was not wearing any helmet when the incident occurred. I received the news from the police at 2.45 am on Friday.”

Cantonment police station house officer (SHO), Ashok Pal, said, “We rushed to the spot on hearing the news. The driver who collided with the bike managed to flee. We immediately took the injured person to the nearby private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.”

“After a complaint by Umesh, an FIR was lodged against the unidentified driver under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (Causing death by negligence) of IPC. We are trying to arrest the accused driver now,” Pal added.
