According to police, Devraj Kumar, who works as a driver, had called additional director general of police (ADG) Prem Prakash to get a complaint registered against five people, whom he had an argument with during a marriage function at Sarthal Kheda village.

The police said Devraj resorted to such a mischief as he was angry with Baniyadher police station, who lodged only non-cognizable report against the people, whereas he wanted them to register FIR.

“On July 2, accused Devraj Kumar, along with his uncle Manoj Kumar, had gone to his cousin’s marriage at Sarthal Kheda village in

Sambhal district

. Around 11:30 pm, both had a dispute with five persons at the function. After the incident, Devraj went to Baniyadher police station to lodge FIR against them, but the police filed only non-cognizable report (NCR),” Prakash told TOI.

“On August 4, Devraj rang me up and said he was Uttar Pradesh minister sports minister Chetan Chauhan and asked me to file an FIR. On August 6, he sent his uncle Manoj to meet me at my office. When I interrogated him, I found lot of loopholes. Meanwhile, I verified with the minister and found that it was a ploy from both of them. Then I arrested his uncle Manoj, and after tracing his cell, we caught Devraj on Friday morning,” he added.

Prakash said both the accused have been jailed under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating).
