BAREILLY: Gangaram, 42, the husband of Prempur Murarpur village head Lakshmi Devi, was allegedly shot dead by three assailants of the same village on Sunday, who dumped his body in a canal.
Station house officer (SHO) of Nawabganj police station Surendra Katiyar said three people of the same village had been booked, following Lakshmi Devi’s complaint.
“In her complaint, the village head stated that three residents of her village — identified as Om Prakash, Mahendra Pal and Satish Kumar — had come to their house and took her husband along on Saturday evening on the pretext of attending a marriage function. When Gangaram didn’t return home the next morning, they started searching for him. Meanwhile, someone informed the family about his murder and his floating body in a nearby canal,” said SHO.
According SHO, “In 2016, Lakshmi Devi won the village head election defeating Om Prakash’s wife by a narrow margin of 18 votes. Since then, Prakash had grudges with him. The opposite camp had also lodged a rape case against Gangaram, who was a government school principal. After the incident, he was attached with another school.”
“We fished out his body from the canal. He was shot into the head from a close range. The body has been sent for post-mortem. We are conducting raids to nab the accused who are still at large,” SHO added.
