BAREILLY: A 19-year-old woman,
Preeti Singh, and her boyfriend Sanoj Singh, 21, were shot dead allegedly by the girl’s brother in Jalalabad area of Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur on Monday afternoon.
The killings took place in a residential colony in front of shocked passersby. The girl died on the spot and the youth succumbed to injuries in hospital hours later.
The accused, Mulayam, was arrested and the murder weapon seized by police.
Jaishankar Singh, SHO at Jalalabad police station, said, “The girl, a school dropout, wanted to marry her neighbour, who belonged to the same community. Her parents were against the union.”
Victim’s brother lost control & decided to kill the couple"On Monday, she had gone to her boyfriend’s house when her brother came to know about it. He barged into the neighbouring house, dragged his sister out and shot her in the stomach with a countrymade pistol. Then, he turned the pistol on the boyfriend and shot him in the stomach as well. Preeti Singh died before getting any medical attention while Sanoj died in hospital in Shahjahanpur city," the SHO added.
The girl’s brother told police that he lost control after coming to know about his sister’s affair with their neighbour and decided to kill them.
Police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) at Jalalabad police station.
Preeti's parents were planning to marry her elsewhere after coming to know about her affair but she was adamant on marrying the man of her choice, said the SHO.
