RAMPUR: Six people, including a Delhi resident, were killed and 45 others were injured when a sleeper bus in which they were travelling collided with a speeding truck on NH-24 in UP's Rampur. Police said the private bus from Shahjahanpur was on its way to Delhi-NCR when it was hit by the truck coming from Moradabad at Zero Point bypass under Civil Lines police jurisdiction on Sunday.
An FIR has been registered against the unidentified truck driver under various sections of the IPC, investigating officer Rampal Sharma said, adding that the bus driver was killed in the incident.
Deputy chief medical officer of Rampur District Hospital, Dr Dashrat Singh, said, "The victims have been identified as Shamim-ul Haq (35), a resident of Delhi's Seelampuri; Naseem Khan (55), Abdul Waheed (50), Sakshi (26), bus driver Husnay Alam (40) and cleaner Karan Rathore (26) -- all residents of Shahjahanpur.
The critically injured passengers have been referred to the neighbouring district hospitals and trauma centres. Those with non-serious injuries were discharged after treatment."
The investigating officer said, "Rubiya Khan, a bus passenger who was travelling with her husband, who was killed, has filed a complaint. Based on that, the truck driver has been charged under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life), 338 (causing grievous hurts) and 304-A (causing death by negligence). More details of the victims are being collected."
Officer Sharma added, "Preliminary investigation established that the truck was travelling at high speed and the accident occurred due to the driver's negligence. Search is on to nab the truck driver."
