Two revenue officials booked for duping farmer of 50K on pretext of govt fees

PILIBHIT: Following the direction of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court in Pilibhit, the local police registered a case against the lekhpal and the kanungo of the land consolidation department on Tuesday evening. The accused are alleged to have deceived a farmer, identified as Deen Dayal - a resident of Dahagla village, and extorted Rs 50,000 under the pretext of government fees. According to the FIR, Gabbar Singh and Santosh Kumar, the two revenue personnel, purportedly accepted money from Deen Dayal.

They promised him an allotment of a consolidated agricultural field in exchange for his two separate fields located in different areas of the village. However, the complainant said the two officials included only one of his fields in the land consolidation process, neglecting the second field, which measured 0.47 hectares. When the victim demanded a refund of the fraudulently charged government fee, the accused allegedly resorted to verbal abuse and even threatened his life, he alleged. "The incident took place in June last year," said Dayal. Sungarhi police station SHO Jagat Singh said, "The two accused have been booked under IPC sections 504, 506 , and relevant section of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988."
