Bareilly: A 45-year-old farmer of Muda Assi village, under Hyderabad police station of Lakhimpur Kheri district, was killed by a tiger while he was working in a sugarcane field near Mohammadi forest range on Wednesday.
Divisional forest officer (DFO) Sanjay Biswal said, "Zakir Ali was attacked by a tiger while bundling sugarcane around 12.30pm. We found the body by following pug marks of the tiger. We have advised locals to avoid the area."
Veterinarian Dr Nitesh Kumar Katiyar and his team have been trying to capture the tiger for two weeks. "Multiple cages have been set up to capture the tiger. Experts from Dudhwa Tiger Reserve are also assisting the team to trap the big cat," he said.
Notably, three tigers are on the prowl in Kheri, Pilibhit and Sitapur districts, and the forest department has been authorised to capture them.
