BAREILLY: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly shot when she asked two drunken goons using foul language to move away from her house in Bara Sirsa village under Aliganj police station on Thursday night. She received serious injuries on her abdomen and succumbed on the spot.
While one of the accused was nabbed, the other is absconding. Police have lodged a case in the matter.
Giving details, police said Meenu was playing with her friends at her home when she heard two men, Omveer and Ravinder, using abusive language near the house’s front gate. The two men, allegedly under the influence of liquor, were shouting loudly and using foul language.
Meenu and her friends then stepped out and asked the goons to move away, but they refused and one of them even caught her hand, teasing her. Meenu pushed him away, while Ravinder reportedly took out his country-made pistol and fired at her.
The girl sustained serious injuries and died on the spot while her friends ran back inside the house in panic. Hearing gunshots, Meenu’s parents and neighbours rushed to the spot, even as the two accused tried to flee. Villagers managed to nab one of the accused, Omveer, while Ravinder managed to flee from the spot along with his pistol.
The girl’s father, Nahney Yadav, lodged a complaint against both the accused.
Talking to TOI, station officer Aliganj police station Rajesh Kumar Yadav said, “A case had been registered against both accused under sections 302 (murder) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We have launched a manhunt to nab Ravinder.”
