Bareilly: After an FIR was lodged against Sunni Barelvi cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan for allegedly making derogatory remarks against PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah during an anti-CAA protest in Sambhal, Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC) on Thursday announced that the cleric along with his supporters will go to Sambhal to surrender before police.

Nafees Khan, national general secretary and spokesperson of IMC, said, “Maulana Tauqeer Raza has been accused of using foul language against leaders holding constitutional posts but no FIR has been lodged against the people who passed objectionable remarks against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and women silently protesting against CAA. By lodging FIRs against us, police want to suppress our voice against CAA, National Register of Citizens and the proposed National Population Register (NPR).

A meeting of IMC members took place here on Thursday against the FIR lodged against the cleric. Nafees Khan said, “Maulana Tauqeer the proposed National Population Register. However, we are ready to face more FIRs. We are not against police and administration but we are protesting against government’s policy.”

Raza Khan is currently visiting Hyderabad and Bihar. When he is back to Bareilly, he along with his supporters will surrender en masse before Sambhal police.”
