Talgo coaches only for trials, to be returned

: Following the successful trial of Spanish-made high speed

Talgo

coaches on the Bareilly-Moradabad route on May 29, railway officials, on Wednesday, said the nine coaches will be

returned

to the supplier once trial runs in the three phases are over. “The Talgo coaches have been provided to us only for trials and they will be returned soon. After analysing the reports of these trails, the railway board will take a final call on whether similar coaches will be manufactured in the country or they will be purchased fromTalgo,” said Nikhil Pandey, divisional railway manager (DRM), Izzatnagar division. The coaches were shipped from Barcelona, Spain and vary in design and construction from Indian ones. “The carriages reached Bareilly on May 18 and were assembled at the railway workshop in Izzatngar. Talgo has given coaches for free and a team of 11 engineers from Spain are working along with a team from the Research Designs and Standard Organisation (RDSO) for successful trials here,” said Rajendra Singh, public relations officer, NE Railway, Izzatnagar division. The first phase of trials on the Bareilly-Moradabad route will continue till June 11 at a speed of 115 kilometres per hour (kmph). Report of the first phase trials will be sent to the railway ministry which will then schedule trials for the second phase for the Palwal-Mathura stretch. The trains are expected to run at a speed of 180 kmph during the second phase. The third and final phase will be between Delhi and Mumbai at a speed of 220 kmph.
