BAREILLY: Members of the

Bharatiya Janta Party

(BJP) on Friday accused local Samajwadi Party (SP) workers of

physically assaulting the driver

of their promotional vehicle that was parked near Madinath. They also alleged that SP workers tore apart posters of PM Modi that were pasted on the vehicle. No FIR has been lodged yet, police said.

The city vice president of BJP, Devendra Joshi, said, “Few SP workers attacked the

promotional vehicle of BJP

when it reached Madinath locality. They snatched away the cell phone of the driver, Haneesh, and assaulted him physically. They also took away Rs 5,000 from him. Later, the SP workers tore down several posters pasted on the vehicle. The mobile phone was returned to Haneesh only when police intervened.”

In a written complaint at the

Subhash Nagar

police station, Haneesh alleged that SP workers issued life threats to him and abused PM Modi. “They said that they would not let me broadcast BJP policies in the area,” he said.
