Bareilly: A 15-year-old girl who publically thrashed two eve-teasers before handing them over to cops was felicitated by the district president
Samajwadi Party (SP) at a public function on the New Year’s eve on Thursday.
Appreciating her bravery Veerpal Singh Yadav said the girl deserves kudos given the fact that she mustered courage to take on the two youth who were much stronger than her.
The girl, who is a student of class 10th at a local school, did not lose nerve and instead pounced upon the two after their indecent behavior crossed all limit, he said.
He said, “We need such young girls who are willing to challenge persons who are out on roads harassing and terrorizing innocent girls and women. We expressed our appreciation by presenting a memento to the girl at a public function on New Year’s eve and would strive to honour such gutsy girls and women in future too.”
The girl was on way home after school on Wednesday afternoon when two persons, residents of Quila and Azam Nagar, reportedly started teasing her at Hartman crossing where she was waiting for an auto.
The two followed her when she boarded the auto and continued to harass her after which the girl stopped the auto taxi and caught hold of them. Later, she handed them a sound thrashing in full public view after which some locals also joined.
The two were taken into custody by incharge, Civil Lines police outpost, Preeti Pawar who was passing the way. A case was lodged against them and the two were sent to jail.
Talking to TOI, circle officer, Kotwali, Mukul Dwivedi, said, “The girl deserves praise and we would be recommending her name for Republic Day bravery award. Besides the role of in charge, Civil Lines police outpost is also praiseworthy and in recognition this parents of the girl personally honoured her in the presence of senior cops.”
