BAREILLY: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to three persons accused in the case related to the violence that took place on November 24 last year during a court-ordered survey of the Sambhal Jama Masjid to determine whether a temple existed at the site.
The three accused are Rashid, Faizan, and Danish.
Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had rejected their bail applications.
The trio had been booked in connection with the violence that erupted during the survey.
Advocate Tauseef Ahmed represented the accused before the Supreme Court.
The violence erupted on Nov 24 during the second phase of the survey after rumours circulated that the mosque's ablution tank had been tampered with. Protesters allegedly pelted stones at police, who responded with force, leading to widespread unrest.
Vehicles were torched, shots were fired, and at least five people were killed.
After the violence, a special investigation team filed a 4,000-page chargesheet in six of the 12 cases related to the incident.
