Robbers loot sugarcane-laden tractor, shoot farmer dead

BAREILLY: A 23-year-old farmer who was on his way to supply cane crop to a sugar mill in Sambhal’s Asmoli area was shot dead allegedly by robbers who also looted his cane-laden tractor.

Mehndi Hasan, a resident of Bilalpat village, had left late Saturday night and his body was found with two bullet wounds on Sunday evening.

His father, Shamim, said the family started searching for him when Hasan didn’t return till Sunday. Around 5.30pm, he received a call his son’s body was found in a hut built in the field of a farmer in Khanpur Bandh village near the sugar mill.

On getting information about the incident, cops rushed to the spot. SHO Asmoli police station Harish Kumar said, “This is a murder case and it seems the accused wanted the tractor. We have lodged an FIR on the charge of murder and teams have been deployed to nab the accused. The victim’s body was handed over to family after autopsy.”
