SAMBHAL: A 45-year-old pregnant woman died after allegedly standing outside a gramin bank in Sultangarh village here on Wednesday morning. Identified as Yasreen Khan, she worked as a daily-wage labourer and the family’s sole bread winner. Her husband is blind and the couple has three other children. Police, however, have refuted family members’ claims that she died while standing in a bank queue.
Speaking to TOI, circle officer of Gunaaor, Umesh Kumar Yadav, said, “We have sent the body for post-mortem. The district administrative officials have also been informed and an inquiry has been initiated. We were told that there was no queue outside the bank and the woman died soon after she collapsed at the facility’s gate.”
According to sources, the woman, a resident of Gadi-Bichaula village under Dhanari tehsil, had an account in the bank under the Samajwadi Pension scheme. Family members and other residents protested outside the facility and demanded that an FIR be registered against bank authorities. They also alleged that she was visiting the bank for the past couple of days to withdraw money but was refused by its cashier.
