Police file chargesheet in NRI murder case

SHAHJAHANPUR: Police have filed a chargesheet against British citizen Ramandeep Kaur and her lover Gurpreet Singh alias Miththu in the murder case of her husband Sukhjeet Singh (35). The sordid love story in which Kaur tricked her NRI husband to come to Shahjahanpur where she had plotted his murder along with her Dubai-based lover, had shocked the city some months ago.
SP (rural) RK Bhartiya told TOI, “The chargesheet has been filed against both accused under section 302 (murder). We have collected enough evidence to prove both accused guilty. We cannot share the information about the eyewitnesses in this case.”
Sukhjeet Singh was brutally killed inside his house at Basantapur village under Banda police station in Shahjahanpur district on September 2. Investigation revealed that he was killed by his wife and his close friend Gurpreet. Gurpreet Accused Gurpreet was trying to flee the country and even took the boarding pass at the airport in Delhi. However, a phone call at the last minute by Shahjahanpur superintendent of police Manoj Kumar to the airport authorities put brakes on his journey. The security officials detained Miththu at the airport 30 minutes before his flight's scheduled departure. Later, the Shahjahanpur crime branch team took the custody of Gurpreet and brought him to Shahjahanpur. Police claimed to have recovered the murder weapons.
Mobile phone details of Gurpreet and conversations with Ramandeep cleared the entire picture. Ramandeep was arrested and sent to Shahjahanpur district jail.
Police, it is learned, have collected evidence like the CCTV footage from the hotel where Gurpreet stayed and statements of hotel workers and taxi driver who took Gurpreet to the village. Details of WhatsApp conversation and the calls between Ramandeep and Gurpreet were also collected. The murder weapons recovered by police would be used as evidence as well.
Earlier, Ramandeep‘s bail app;ication had been rejected by the court of CJM and district judge. While the bail application of Gurpreet will be heard in the court of district judge on November 29.
