PILIBHIT

: A woman, her parents and siblings were booked on Saturday for allegedly abetting her husband’s suicide by the

Puranpur

police. The deceased, Ahmad Qadari (40), was a lawyer. He ended his life by consuming poison.

The culprits would soon be arrested, police said.

According to police, they booked eight people on Saturday following a written complaint filed by deceased’s brother, Kafil Ahmad. His lawyer, Fakhrul Manzari, provided a copy of the suicide note to TOI in which Qadari had expressed his dejection as his wife, Shagufta Azmi, wanted a divorce from him and had tried to poison him for refusing. His father-in-law Shadaqat Ali, a resident of

Shahjahanpur

, had also allegedly tried to kill him as he had borrowed Rs 40,000 from Qadari and was not returning it, Manzari claimed.

Kafil Ahmad alleged that Shagufta had threatened to frame Qadari’s family members in a fake rape case if they approached police. He said he had taken his brother to a private doctor in Puranpur after he took poison but after he declined to treat him, Qadari was shifted to a private hospital in Pilibhit, where he died during treatment. “My brother was a legal counsel to five nationalized banks in Puranpur,” Kafil said.

Puranpur Kotwali police station’s SHO Yogendra Sharma said an FIR was lodged under IPC section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Shagufta Azmi, her father Shadaqat Ali, mother Sugra begum, sisters Shobi Khan and Sani and brothers Junaid and Javed and another other person, Tasleem Khan, a lecturer in a college in Shahjahanpur.
