Pilibhit DM orders standard verification of newly constructed road

Pilibhit: The Pilibhit district magistrate on Tuesday ordered standard verification of a newly constructed road between villages Kharua and Kanakor after a video shows villagers peeling off the uppermost layer.DM Sanjay Kumar Singh, ordered executive engineer of rural engineering department, Rajesh Kumar, to file his report within 24 hours.According to Kumar, the 9.6-kilometre-long road in Lalaurikhera Block is under construction with an outlay of Rs 4.87 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and its 4-kilometre-long stretch was completed.When asked about the shoddy condition of the road, he said, "The painted layer of a road made with coal tar and fine gravel takes at least five days to dry up and reach the standard level of compaction. It seems that the villagers peeled off the painted layer with their hands one or two days after it was laid."Meanwhile, villagers accused the contractor of corruption and said that he did not apply the assigned quantity of coal tar and gravel. They claimed that the painted layer was uprooted after seven days from the date of laying it.The DM said, "The executive engineer has been directed to file his report on Wednesday. It will be reviewed technically, and stern action will be taken against the concerned contractor and junior engineers, who were assigned duty to physically verify the quality of construction work at every stage if quality is found to be inferior."
