SHAHJAHANPUR: A young man and a woman jumped from the second floor of a pizza cafe in Shahjahanpur district on Saturday evening after they were allegedly accosted by members of a Hindu organisation, police sources told news agency PTI.
According to PTI, both sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
According to police sources, the pizza cafe is located on the second floor of a building near Bareilly Morh in the Kant police station area.
On Saturday evening, members of a Hindu organisation arrived at the shop and questioned a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman who were sitting together, the sources said without naming the organisation.
The couple told the police that they had ordered instant noodles and were waiting for the food when they were asked about their castes. They said they were Hindus, after which some people allegedly began filming them, police sources said.
Panicked by the situation, the young man allegedly pulled out a window bar and jumped from the second floor. The woman, who was sitting with him, also jumped soon after, the sources added.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said the police reached the spot after receiving information and are investigating the incident. No complaint has been filed so far.
"We will take strict action as soon as we receive a complaint," he said.
