"The accused used to slaughter bovines and throw the remains in a farm field. Their act may have incited violence in the area," a police officer said.
Additional SP (rural) Rajkumar Agarwal said, "Mehandi Hasan has six cases of cow slaughtering registered against him in Bareilly and his indirect involvement was found in other similar cases, as well. Haseeb Qureshi has seven cases of cow slaughtering and one under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Similarly, Rizwan Khan and Arif Khan are habitual offenders and have half a dozen cases of cow slaughtering registered against them in the past two years. All these accused were caught several times in the past and sent to jail. However, after getting bail, they indulged in the same crime and even made gangs that abducted bovines from roads and slaughtered them."
