Mentally ill Meerut woman gangraped by two auto drivers
BAREILLY: A 22-year-old mentally-ill woman, who got separated from her mother in Meerut and reached Bareilly by a train inadvertently, was allegedly gangraped by two autorickshaw drivers.
Subhashnagar police station SHO Jagnaryan Panday told TOI, “The incident took place on Sunday night when the duo found the woman roaming around aimlessly at the railway station and offered to drop her to her relative’s place for free. However, they took her to their room and brutalised her.”
Panday said, “Around 11:45pm on Sunday, when police team was conducting regular vehicle checking at Sithora crossing, seeing them, one of the accused, Manoj, 25, of Madinath village under Subhashnagar police station, ran away. Police, however, nabbed his friend, Veeresh, 21, of Khanpur village under Fatehganj (East) police station, who was sitting along with the rape survivor on the back seat of the autorickshaw. The woman told police that she was in Meerut and wanted to go her aunt’s house. She was unable to explain how did she reach Bareilly.”
“Veeresh, who confessed to his crime, told police that they took her to Manoj’s room and brutalised her. He was sent to jail,” Panday added.
Circle officer (CO) Ashok Kumar Meena said, “The rape survivor was unable to explain the incident, but she told us her father’s name and his address. We immediately informed Meerut police and contacted her father.”
