Man kills ex-wife in Pilibhit, held

Pilibhit: A 38-year-old man was arrested for murdering his ex-wife in the Naugwan Pakariya town area, adjacent to Pilibhit city, on Friday.Uma Shankar barged into the house of his ex-wife, Puja, 35, around 9 am while she was cleaning utensils. He, along with an accomplice, stabbed her multiple times, killing her on the spot. When her husband, Mani Ram, 36, tried to intervene, Uma Shankar attacked him with the knife. A milkman, Priyanshu, who arrived to deliver milk and attempted to rescue Mani Ram, was also injured.Hearing their screams, locals rushed to the spot. As Uma Shankar tried to flee, he fell and sustained a head injury. Police took him into custody, while his accomplice escaped. The injured were taken to the district hospital. An FIR was registered under BNS sections 101 (murder) and 109 (attempt to commit murder). Puja's body was sent for autopsy, and two police teams were formed to track down the absconding accused.Police said Puja, originally from Beri Chauki in Shahjahanpur, married Uma Shankar of Pihani village in 2009. They had two sons, Yash and Anshu, now 13 and 14. She left Uma Shankar three years ago and started living with Mani Ram, whom she met through relatives. She recently gave birth to a baby 22 days ago.SP Pandey said Uma Shankar had gifted Puja two plots in Noida. After their separation, she sold one and planned to sell the second, which angered Uma Shankar and may have led to the attack.
