BAREILLY: Police have arrested a man and two contract killers for the murder of the man’s father, a railway employee here. The son had allegedly hired the killers who murdered the father on April 9. The son planned the entire murder so he could get his father’s job in the Railways, said officials.
“Harish Kumar, the son, hatched the plan to get his father killed so that he could get compassionate employment in the Railways, for which he hired contract killers for Rs 1 lakh.

He paid them Rs 20,000 in advance,” said superintendent of police (rural) Yamuna Prasad.
On the night of April 9, unidentified bike-borne men accosted Sohan Lal, 55, a railway employee and his son Harish Kumar, 23, while the latter were on their way back home after distributing invitation cards to guests at Baheri for Harish’s upcoming wedding. After stopping the father and son to ask them the way, the men shot Sohan Lal and fled. He was admitted to a nearby hospital where he died during treatment. Harish filed a complaint against unidentified men for the murder.
Prasad said, “Jobless Kumar by eliminating his father wanted to land his government job as he was to get married on April 19. During interrogation he confessed that on several occasions in the past one-and-half months he tried to kill his father. After failing each time, he decided to hire someone else.”
Station officer at Bhojipura police station J P Yadav said, “Sohan Lal had given Harish Rs 1 lakh to purchase jewellery for the bride a few days prior to the incident. The son contacted his friend Pushpendra, a resident of Saidpur Saraula and promised him Rs 1 lakh for the murder. Pushpendra however approached three other friends namely Cheda Lal, resident of Rehpura Kareem Baksh, Durvesh, from Khatoni (all under Bhojipura police station) and Dharmendra from Khilchipur village (Fatheganj West police station).”

“Call detail report (CDR) of Harish gave us some clues, after which his mobile number was put on surveillance. He purchased two sim cards on a fake ID. While he kept one with himself, the other was given to Pushpendra. Calling on both numbers was frequent before and after the incident, which gave us a clue.”
Later police nabbed main accused Cheda Lal who allegedly shot dead Sohan Lal while two others, Dharmendra and Durvesh are yet to be nabbed.
Harish told police that on numerous occasions he asked his father to take retirement under voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) which he had refused.
Police recovered a 12-bore countrymade pistol allegedly used in the murder along with two live bullets and Rs 18,000 from the shooters. All three were sent to jail on Thursday while search is on for the other two miscreants.
