PILIBHIT: One Shashank Kumar of Ballabh Nagar in Pilibhit city under Sungarhi police station was booked on Friday for allegedly making extortion calls to a medical store owner and demanding Rs 50,000.
According to complainant Ajay Kumar, a resident of Barha village, Shashank was trying to extort money from him by leveling false allegations that his medical store was illegally selling medicines without proper prescriptions to patients.
The caller had introduced himself as victim and claimed to be state unit secretary of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia, the complainant said.
Shashank had threatened to file a complaint with the district administration regarding “unlawful medical practice” if he was paid Rs 50,000, said Kumar.
SP Singh, SHO concerned, said an FIR against the named accused was lodged under IPC section 384 (committing extortion).
