UP man beats wife to death over bike, Rs 3 lakh dowry demand

A 24-year-old woman from Amroha was allegedly murdered by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. Following a complaint from the victim's family, the husband has been arrested. Police have registered an FIR under various sections, including dowry death and cruelty against women, and are considering additional murder charges.

BIJNOR: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands in Amroha, police said, adding the husband was held following a complaint by the victim's kin. Her father claimed that the in-laws had repeatedly harassed her for a high-end motorcycle and Rs 3 lakh as dowry.
Circle Officer (CO), Hasanpur, Deep Kumar Pant, said, "As per postmortem report, the woman died of head injury and strangulation.

An FIR under BNS sections 80 (dowry death), 85 (cruelty against woman within domestic relationships) and 3/4 of Dowry Prohibition Act was registered against the husband Sundar Kumar, his parents Preetam and Sumrati, sister Savita and elder brother Anil Kumar. An investigation is on and the husband may also be charged under the section of murder."
Police added that the victim, Meena, a resident of Amroha, was married to Sundar, a labourer from Baikheda village in Hasanpur, around two years ago.
Meena's father, Vijaypal, a farmer, said, "She had been staying with us since Raksha Bandhan. On Sunday, her husband came to take her back citing his mother's illness. After reaching her husband's place, Meena called us and said her mother-in-law was fine and that Sundar lied. She also said Sundar was demanding a bike and money. Later in the night, we were informed that she died."
Vijaypal added: "Before we could reach the place, the police were already there. Meena had injury marks on her head and neck and was badly beaten up."
